Education
Christian Education: Our Christian education at First Lutheran oversees the faith development of our members.
Sunday school:
Sunday school program for children ages 3 years old to high school classes. Our classes are structure as follows: 3 and 4 year olds, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade, 3rd and 4th grade, 5th through 8th grade, and high school. Our program begins at 9:15 am in the Family Life Center with a large group opening which includes songs and a short lesson. We then transition to class time which concludes at 10:15 am.
Adult Sunday school: We offer two classes during our Sunday school hour. Pastor Bill leads a classes that covers a wide-range of topics. The second class we offer is for developmentally disabled adults in partnership with our area group homes. This class is taught by Linda Long.
Confirmation:
Confirmation: Our program is a three year cycle typically for youth in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. We cover the 10 Commandments, Apostles creed, Life of Jesus, Martin Luther, Old Testament, New Testament, Lutheran Life, Small Catechism, and other topics. Confirmation students serve as acolytes for all our services, attend 2 overnight retreats, perform service projects, and attend one week of summer camp. Confirmation is an opportunity for youth to explore their faith, learn more of our theology, and reaffirm their baptism.
Vacation Bible school:
We provide a week-long Vacation Bible school for our families. Our program is conducted in the evening and begins with a meal. Our children are place into crews based on their age, typically the crews are kept between 8 and 10 participants with two crew leaders. Children will stay with their crew during the Vacation Bible school time. We have three “stations” that each crew will go to during their evening. The stations are as follows: Bible story, arts and crafts, and group games. Each station is lead by adults who will lead the crews. Crew leaders help keep children focused and engaged at each station.
Adults will attend an evening class lead by Pastor Bill the topic for the class generally coincides with the Vacation Bible school theme.
